Why CNG

Why Compressed Natural Gas?

With prices as low as $.69 a gallon. Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is one of the lowest cost and environment friendly alternative fuels available. More than 8 million cars in the world are driving on CNG. Natural gas is one of the cleanest, safest, and most useful forms of energy. It represents about 25 percent of all primary energy used in the United States. Natural gas is a mixture of hydrocarbons, primarily methane. It has the highest hydrogen-to-carbon ratio of any hydrocarbon, and, therefore, produces less greenhouse gases and particulate matter. The fact that natural gas is combustible and burns more cleanly than all other hydrocarbons helps reinforce its position as one of the most highly used energy sources.

Deposits of natural gas are most often found deep under ground, either in isolated pockets or in association with oil. Formation of methane also occurs naturally in places such as landfills, sewage plants, agricultural bio-waste pits and other locations where large amounts of organic materials decompose. This renewable methane promises to play an increasingly important role in the world’s energy supply. Natural gas is both colorless and odorless in its natural state. As a safety feature, natural gas utilities add an unpleasant odorant to alert users so that leaks do not go undetected
